MAY | I CAN PRAY
Best Books for Babies and Toddlers: May Edition
May is one of my favorite months in Monthly Menus. The truth we're teaching is one I want to grow in myself: I can talk to God. What a privilege. It’s a beautiful truth that the God who made the universe wants to converse with each one of us.
This month's books help little ones understand that prayer isn't a ritual or a performance. It's a conversation with God, who is always listening. Here are some of my favorite books about prayer for little ones:
First I Say A Prayer by Bowman and McKinley — This book encourages the daily rhythm of starting our day with God. A simple, beautiful habit to begin building young.
God Hears Me by Kristin Wetherell — This book reinforces that God always listens to what we say.
God Speaks to Me by Kristin Wetherell — The beautiful companion to God Hears Me. This one teaches children how to listen for God's voice through His Word.
Daniel and the Very Hungry Lions by Tim Thornborough — This is a vibrant retelling of a man who wouldn't stop talking to God — no matter what. This is the kind of faith I’m praying my children will have.
How Can I Pray? by Zhou and Peterson — This book is another one of my favorite books from Steph Williams’ “Little Me, Big God” series.
Any Time, Any Place, Any Prayer by Laura Wifler — This book traces prayers through the whole biblical narrative. It’s offered in both hardcover and board book formats.
Loved by Sally Lloyd-Jones — This poetic retelling of the Lord's Prayer illustrates Jesus’ command to “pray then like this.”
God Listens When I Pray by Little Daily Grace Co — This book is a gentle reminder of God's attentive ear. It even has a moment at the end where it prompts you to stop and pray with your child right then!
Praying With My Fingers by Paraclete Press — So practical! A hands-on way to teach children how to pray using their own fingers as a guide.
Want a simple, intentional way to use these books all month long without doing hours of lesson prep?
That's exactly what Monthly Menus was designed for. Each month's curriculum fits in a menu sleeve and is ready to guide your conversations, songs, prayers, and playtime.
