Toddler Book Basket: I Can Believe & trust God
Jesus rose, appeared, walked with His disciples, and sent them out to share the good news as they are going. Toddlers are intimately familiar with being on the move. They want to walk, climb, push, pull, and explore what is next. I put this book basket together to help you rehearse the beautiful truth that following Jesus is the best way as we learn to trust Him.
This book list pairs perfectly with our April Monthly Menu. As you build ramp races and point out cars and trucks on your neighborhood walks, these stories will help you weave gospel truth into your everyday play. I pray these moments of reading about going and following will help your family rejoice in the truth that God has good plans for us.
What Are Feet For? by Abby Wedgeworth — This book series is so well done, and this board book is no exception. The author thoughtfully connects real life toddler experiences to God’s truth about forgiveness and grace.
Near by Sally Lloyd Jones — With the truths of Psalm 139, the author illustrates that wherever we go, God is with us. There is no place too far or too deep or too high that we could escape His love for us.
Found by Sally Lloyd Jones — Echoing the truths from Psalm 23, this beautifully illustrated book reminds us that we are His sheep and that He is our trustworthy Shepherd.
The Man Who Would Not Be Quiet by Steph Williams — A beautiful story where a blind man does not give up hope and will not stop talking about his new life in Jesus!
The Good Shepherd and the Stubborn Sheep by Hannah Harrison — A sweet retelling of the lost sheep parable. It tugs at the heartstrings and reminds us that we are all lost but have been found by a loving God.
The Garden, The Curtain, and The Cross by Carl Laferton — The board book edition is a beautiful journey through the entire storyline of the Bible. It brilliantly connects the Garden of Eden, the temple curtain, and the empty tomb to show how Jesus made a way for us to be with God again.
God Returns for Me by Kristin Weatherell — Coming in August 2026! I’ve already pre-ordered because I highly recommend the rest of her series!
God Changes Me by Kristin Weatherell — Also coming August 2026! And ditto on the pre-order :)
Things That Go: Indestructibles — There is an Indestructibles book for almost every Monthly Menus theme, and this one fits our April transportation focus perfectly.
The Big Red Tractor and the Little Village by Francis Chan — A wonderful parable about a tractor and a village of people. It teaches children that we operate best when we rely on our Maker's power instead of our own strength.
Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle — A toddler class that celebrates kindness, friendship, and helping others on the road as we go.
The Easter Fix by Steph Williams — Toddlers intimately know the frustration of when a favorite toy breaks. This engaging book uses that familiar feeling to beautifully illustrate how Jesus came to fix our broken world. It gently shows how Jesus went to the cross to fix our hearts and restore our relationship with God.
Why Books Like These Matter
Toddlers are constantly on the move. Physical movement is one of the very first ways they learn about the world. When we connect their natural desire to walk, run, and explore to the concept of following Jesus, we help them understand that faith is an active journey. Learning to trust God happens step by step.
Because children this age are so active, sitting down for long devotionals is not usually realistic. If you are looking for simple ways to keep pointing your little one to Jesus while they are on the move, our April Monthly Menu focuses on transportation, being on the move, and trusting God. It is full of low-prep activities, prayers to pray together, and simple tools for weaving faith naturally into your busy days.
